La, La, La, Music to Wake Up the Imagination!

I can hardly wait to try out my brainstorm of an idea!  Music to stimulate the imagination! Of course, I had to start out with Paperback Writer by The Beatles. I started the playlist out with a couple of songs that make you want to move around and dance, but they are about imagination and then slowed it down some for the writing experience.  I always play background music in my class, so I cannot hardly believe that I did not think of this earlier.  This is my tentative playlist for our next writing lesson:

Paperback Writer by the Beatles

Let Us Create byJukebox the Ghost
Playground In My Mind by Clint Holmes
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by the Beatles
Kids of the Furture by The Jonas Brothers
Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog
Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland
Imagine by John Lennon
Pure Imagination from Willie Wonka
The Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel
Building a Mystery by Sarah McLachlin

I feel like I am running in circles....

Every time I do a writing lesson with my students, I feel like we are starting all over again.  It is like the have never had any writing instruction in their past years of school and I am very well aware that they have since kindergarten!  It is like an endless circle and we seem to be stuck in emergent writing.  I think it is the attitude that the students have all formed about writing. Did I give them this attitude?  Can they sense from me what a chore getting the class to write has become?  Oh my goodness, please do not let it be me!  I love to write and I love to have my students stretch their imaginations.  As I am typing this, a huge dark cloud is forming and I feel that the upcoming gloom as brought on by myself.  I have never looked at writing through my students eyes, maybe they are picking up something from me.  I can see the dread in their eyes when I mention us writing. I have got to turn this around and start with an upbeat introduction, maybe with music.  Music seems to brighten everyone's mood.  I will now be on a mission to find good writing music and a little dance for us to do to get the creative juices flowing before we sit down to think and write!
